Art from the Heart

This is the digital exhibition of artworks and message from children all over the world prepared by the Children's Advisory Team of Child Rights Connect. The goal is to support the discussion at the Annual Day on the Rights of the Child at the UN Human Rights Council about children in armed conflict by showing how children see the world, how conflict affects them, and what they want adults and decision makers to do to protect them.

Children’s voices matter. Their views matter. Even, and especially, in times of war. When children are listened to, peace becomes possible.

English Translation

“War Is Not Our Game… Peace Is Our Right”

I am a small child,

You may not know my name,

You may not see my face in the news,

But I am one of the children

Whose life has been changed by war.

I used to wake up in the morning,

Go to school with my bag on my back,

And dream of the future.

Today, I wake up to frightening sounds,

Searching for a place where I can feel safe.

I used to fear exams…

Now I fear things far bigger than my age.

I do not understand politics,

And I do not know why adults fight,

But I know one thing:

My heart grows tired of fear,

And my childhood is slipping away

Between loud noises and smoke.

O world,

We are not asking for much.

We want a safe school,

A sky without airplanes,

A quiet night without anxiety,

And a future that looks like our dreams, not our nightmares.

Look at us not as numbers, but as children.

Hear our voices before they turn into silence.

Help us grow up in peace,

For war is not our game,

And peace is our right.

Let a child dream only of living.

“War Is Not Our Game… Peace Is Our Right”

First Name: Salma

Age: 16

Country: Jordan

Type: Messages

Description:

This is Salma from Jordan, This initiative, under the title Children Victims of Armed Conflict, is among the causes that affect me most deeply because wars surround us, and death relentlessly pursues children physically, emotionally, and psychologically.

The global organization DCI invited us, as members of the Regional Advisory Council of children, because we represent the voices of children in our countries and around the world. Through this platform, we speak to the world and say: The time has come for us to live the peace that is our right , and your responsibility.

So I decided to write a poem and draw a paint express all the reality and justice needed
