Art from the Heart

This is the digital exhibition of artworks and message from children all over the world prepared by the Children's Advisory Team of Child Rights Connect. The goal is to support the discussion at the Annual Day on the Rights of the Child at the UN Human Rights Council about children in armed conflict by showing how children see the world, how conflict affects them, and what they want adults and decision makers to do to protect them.

Children’s voices matter. Their views matter. Even, and especially, in times of war. When children are listened to, peace becomes possible.

English Translation

I, speaking to you from the other side of the world, from the other side of this so very large world, tell you the following: you are not alone; do not lose faith that this will improve; light always emerges at the end of the tunnel. We who are in Boca del Río, Veracruz (Mexico), are keeping a close watch on your situation; the entire world knows about you. Remember that you are not just fighting for your country; you are fighting to maintain your history, your legacy, your culture, and everything that makes you a community.

If you feel fear or anguish, do not worry; it is okay if you do. I know it is not easy going through this, but whether you are accompanied by someone or if there is no one there for you, I want you to know that you have the whole world praying, orating, and wanting your country to put an end to this—for them to reason and manage to reach a peace agreement. Not only will you celebrate; THE WHOLE WORLD WILL.

Believe me when I tell you it tears me apart to see your situation and to see how your mother or father fights for you day by day; I remember the sacrifice they make for you so that you can achieve a life like everyone else. It was not your fault to be there or to be living through what happened, because I am sure everything happens for a reason, and you will see how little by little your sorrows diminish, peace arrives, and your happiness returns. Never forget what you fight for, why you decide to get up every day; your tears will not be in vain, your fears will soon disappear, and the sun will rise brighter than before. When you see the sunrise, you won’t just see the sun; you will see a new beginning of something; you will finally feel the sun on your face and feel relief.

I promise to make your life known—how conflicts can damage your heart. We are all human; you are too, and you have the RIGHT to live, to flourish, to manage to survive. Today I give you a ‘Band-Aid’ for your heart; I protect you with my prayers, and I wish with my whole being that your life be protected, safeguarded, healed, and loved. You can do it; the world unites for you. ♡L
