Art from the Heart

This is the digital exhibition of artworks and message from children all over the world prepared by the Children's Advisory Team of Child Rights Connect. The goal is to support the discussion at the Annual Day on the Rights of the Child at the UN Human Rights Council about children in armed conflict by showing how children see the world, how conflict affects them, and what they want adults and decision makers to do to protect them.

Children’s voices matter. Their views matter. Even, and especially, in times of war. When children are listened to, peace becomes possible.

The ships of your arrival to the shore of greatness

One day, Saeed happily decided to travel to another country — one that was safer and more stable.
He prepared everything he needed… and slept with that decision in mind.
He fell into a deep, deep sleep…

Suddenly, Gaza called out to him:
“Saeed… Saeed!”

He replied, “Who is calling me??”

She answered:
“I am Gaza.
On my land you grew, from my water you drank, and from my air you breathed.
So why do you leave me? Answer me… answer me!”

Saeed said:
“My mother Gaza… you have no buildings…”

She replied:
“The most beautiful buildings will be built.”

He said:
“You have no schools.”

She replied:
“You will see the magic of my schools… their bells, their teachers, and their wonderful facilities.”

He said:
“No playgrounds… no parks…”

She replied:
“Playgrounds will be built anew, and enchanting parks will be created that capture the heart.”

He asked:
“Where are your public gardens?”

She replied:
“Birds will migrate to them because of their beauty.”

He asked:
“And what about hospitals?”

She said:
“Great buildings will be constructed, with unmatched staff and teams.”

He asked:
“And the port?”

She said:
“We will restore the port and rebuild it.”

He said:
“There are no lights adorning your streets… darkness everywhere.”

She replied:
“You will see lights decorating every house and every street.”

He asked:
“Why are we deprived of flying in an airplane?”

She replied:
“The airport is waiting…”

He said:
“The roads are worn out…”

She replied:
“You will see paved roads whose beauty will delight you.”

He asked:
“Where are the games that distract me and bring me joy?”

She replied:
“Games that will surprise you are waiting…”

At that moment, Saeed realized that his decision to travel outside Gaza was rushed…
and that a bright future awaited him in Gaza.

Saeed wakes up to the sound of his mother calling him to prepare his luggage for travel…
but he refuses and insists:

“I will not leave Gaza… I will not leave Gaza… my beautiful city.”
