Art from the Heart

This is the digital exhibition of artworks and message from children all over the world prepared by the Children's Advisory Team of Child Rights Connect. The goal is to support the discussion at the Annual Day on the Rights of the Child at the UN Human Rights Council about children in armed conflict by showing how children see the world, how conflict affects them, and what they want adults and decision makers to do to protect them.

Children’s voices matter. Their views matter. Even, and especially, in times of war. When children are listened to, peace becomes possible.

English Translation

On a dark day, when worry filled every heart, a candle of hope appeared to light my surroundings and pierce through to my soul. A sun rose, flowers bloomed, trees bore fruit, and birds chirped.

I am Mohammed. I am a Palestinian child writing to you from the heart of Gaza. I am always dreaming and thinking; my pillow is the only witness to my dreams and my ambitions.

I am Mohammed, and I know nothing but hope, determination, and optimism. Once, I looked up at the sky and spoke to a star about what I wanted. I told her: “I dream of living in peace and safety.”

I dream of beautiful, towering buildings from which I can see my city, and complexes that provide everything I need. From a school or a library for reading and expanding my culture, to swimming pools and restaurants for recreation. I dream of electricity that lights up the entire region, and wide streets and spacious neighborhoods.

I dream of museums where we place our heritage and our creations, and factories that produce food, clothing, and electronic devices. I dream of establishing spaces for scientists and thinkers to discover new things, and building airports so that everyone I love can travel. I see cinemas to watch films, and robots cleaning the streets to reduce the labor required.

I dream of living a beautiful life, filled with love, tenderness, kindness, and safety.

I am Mohammed, and I am a flame of hope that will never be extinguished.
